About us

The Center for the Study of Environment and Society (CSES) was created from the interest of Rice students in the environment, and the need to coordinate and oversee developments to environmental classes and programs of study at Rice. CSES was officially established in the Fall of 2001. To read the full History of Environmental Programs at Rice and CSES click HERE.

CSES coordinates courses and curricula on environmental topics offered in the schools of Engineering, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, and Humanities. For a list of the environmentally related courses at Rice, visit our Education page.

CSES merged with CENHS (Center for Energy and Environmental Research in the Human Sciences) on July 2014. The new Director is Dominic Boyer. More information can be found at  www.culturesofenergy.com
