CSES has compiled the following list of environmentally related organizations, resources, and links outside of Rice University. Each organization has a brief description and a link to their website.
Local and National Organizations
- Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE): AASHE’s mission is to empower higher education to lead the sustainability transformation. We do this by providing resources, professional development, and a network of support to enable institutions of higher education to model and advance sustainability in everything they do, from governance and operations to education and research.
- National Wildlife Federation (NWF) Campus Ecology Program: National Wildlife Federation has a more than 20-year history of working with colleges and universities through its Campus Ecology program to improve their overall green educational programming and onsite sustainability. Founded in 1989, its student outreach programs, campus consulting, climate action competition, and educational events and resources reach about 1,000 campuses each year.
- University Leaders for a Sustainable Future (ULSF): The Association of University Leaders for a Sustainable Future (ULSF) is the Secretariat for signatories of the Talloires Declaration (1990), which has been signed by over 400 college and university presidents and chancellors worldwide. ULSF supports sustainability as a critical focus of teaching, research, operations and outreach in higher education through publications, research, and assessment.
- Clean Air Action: Daily Air Quality Updates
- Citizen’s Environmental Coalition: CEC is an information clearinghouse and communications network for environmental issues in the Houston / Galveston, Texas, area. We serve the public by bringing many diverse groups together to build awareness and stimulate discussion about environmental issues in the region
- Air Alliance Houston: Local air quality information and advocacy. Air Alliance Houston was formed more than twenty-five years ago as GHASP, the Galveston-Houston association for Smog Prevention. Now we are bigger and better than ever. We are strong advocates for Houston’s environmental justice communities.
- BikeHouston: Bicycle information and advocacy
- Houston Advanced Research Center: A nonprofit, university-linked organization fostering scientific research and technology development.
- Houston Metropolitan Area Air Quality – Data from 20 Houston-area monitoring stations, organized by day. From Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
- Houston Wilderness Group: Features of maps of Houston for nature-oriented outings
- Citizens’ League for Environmental Action Now (CLEAN): Environmental reporting and local information source

- Texas Climate New: A magazine about climate & sustainability
- AASHE Blog: A blog with multiple authors covering issues related to campus sustainability. Hosted and authored by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE).
- AASHE Bulletin: A weekly digest of news, jobs, opportunities, and announcements related to sustainability on the campus. Compiled by AASHE.

- Environmental Literacy Council: The Environmental Literacy Council is an independent, non-profit made up of scientists, economists, and educators striving to connect teachers and students to science-based information on environmental issues.
